Types of Surgery
We have the skills and resources to complete a wide variety of surgical procedures for your dog or cat. These include:
Spay – We recommend that all female dogs and cats be spayed after they go through their first heat cycle. This procedure can be completed in both dogs and cats as early as two months of age, but there is good evidence of joint benefits if they’re older.
This is a routine surgery that involves removing the complete reproductive tract, including the uterus and ovaries. It lessens the risks of your pet developing uterine or breast tumors later in life, and it also diminishes or eliminates unwanted behavioral changes that frequently accompany the heat cycles of both dogs and cats. Spaying a dog takes anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes, while spaying a cat takes between 15 and 20 minutes.
Neuter – We also recommend neutering for all male dogs and cats, as it significantly curtails unwanted behaviors and eliminates the risk that the animal will father an unwanted litter. It also lessens the pet’s chances of developing prostate or testicular cancers later on.
The procedure involves removing the testicles, and it can be completed when the animals are still quite young. However, there is evidence of benefits if it’s done after puberty.
Dental Surgery – As part of our routine checkups, we’ll evaluate your pet to determine if there are any dental issues that warrant further treatment, which may involve surgery if needed. These surgical procedures can include the removal of broken or damaged teeth, as well as treatment to address abscesses, infection, or broken jaws.
